Having graduated the London Foot Hospital, Lenia Papadopoullou
Maliotou returned to Cyprus and set up a podiatry practice in
Nicosia in 1969.
At that time people were unaware of the existence of this
profession and this made the start of Lenia’s career very
difficult. She has put much effort in informing the medical
professions at large of the scope of podiatry (chiropody was
the term at the time).
Gradually people started to understand
the benefit they could have and the practice attained a
momentum. This was achieved among other means, by offering her
services on a regular basis to the British Military Bases, and
treating patients in old people’s homes and other institutions.
By 1980 she moved to the third place (already) for her practice
to new premises built and decorated for the needs of the
practice for that time which also could host one more
podiatrist.
In 1994 Lenia was joined by Diamanto and the
practice started evolving in different directions. A new
orthotics laboratory was set up and manufacturing of insoles
for our patients started taking place in a larger scale than
before. We were carrying out the biomechanical evaluations of
gait, walking and used the casting methods for manufacturing
the custom made orthotics.
In 1999 Novel systems were brought
in the practice and diagnostics for our evaluations were
enhanced. Emed pressure distributions platforms were used in
association with the biomechanical evaluations and Pedar
in-shoe systems were used to verify the treatments. In 2001
Pedcad was also brought in the practice and the manufacturing
Lab was completely changed and updated. The manufacturing of
insoles was modified.
Foot Forward was born. Step in the right
direction was our logo. Technology could give us more and we
did everything we could to be fast and effective for our
patients. We equipped our practice with the best systems
available (equipment Foot Forward) in the market for accurate
measurements, for the valid diagnostics, for precise designing
of insoles for each foot separately. We established a
laboratory to give us the optimum results. Pedography and
Orthotics Devices and Footwear is our specialty. Pedography and
Diabetes are also an area podiatry can offer a lot.
In 2004 July, footforward moved to new establishment in Acropolis
Nicosia.
Depina Theodorou joined foot forward in
November 2007
After grad uating from high school I
decided to study at the University of Southampton at the School
of Health Professions and Rehabilitation Sciences to become a
Podiatrist.
After the completion of the course I
returned to Cyprus to work as a podiatrist. I joined the Foot
Forward team in November 2007. This was a good opportunity as
it gave me the chance to work as part of a team and to share
ideas with my fellow colleagues.
The experience gained by working with the
Foot Forward team has been more than what was anticipated. I
therefore have the option of exploring other fields of Podiatry
and increasing my knowledge in various fields.
